This site creates and maintains a collection of your top tweets that you can link in your bio. You'll need to upload your twitter archive to get started, and log in so that the bot can create and maintain the list using your account. If that sounds okay to you, then let's get started!
1. Request your archive. On a computer, go to Twitter Settings and scroll down to the bottom. Click the "Request Your Archive" button. Note that Twitter is eliminating the archive soon, so you might not have this option. In that case, you'll need to use the "Your Twitter data" option.
2. Download your archive. In not too long, you'll get an email from Twitter with instructions to download and unzip your archive. Follow those instructions. Twitter emails to the address you gave them at signup, so make sure you check that account!
Important: There is a file in there called tweets.csv or tweet.js (or maybe it looks like an excel file called "tweets" if your computer hides known file extensions). Do not open it. If you open it, Excel will completely trash it and you won't be able to upload it in step 4.
3. Log in. In order to create the list, the bot needs you to log in.
4. Uploads tweets.csv or tweet.js The archive included either a spreadsheet (CSV) file or a javascript (JS) file, with all your tweets. You'll need to upload that to get things started. (You need to log in before you can upload. Click where it says "Log In Now".)
5. Be patient When the list is ready, you'll get a mention from @TopTweetsBot letting you know.
Is this really free? Yes. The bot only costs me about $10 a month in server usage fees. Doesn't seem worth the trouble to charge for it.
Who created this? The bot was created by @alfageeek.
Why did you make this? FavStar had to shut down because Twitter turned off the APIs they were using. That left no good way to get a list of top tweets. This is my solution to that problem.
Why do I need to upload my archive? Because of some limits in the Twitter APIs, the bot cannot see your oldest tweets. Starting with the archive works around that issue.
Do I have to upload my archive periodically? No. The bot has no trouble keeping up with your tweets once you get it started. The archive is just to get the old tweets Twitter doesn't show on your timeline.
Can I upload a newer archive? Yes. The bot will notice if there are any tweets it doesn't already know about, and start monitoring them for likes.
What happens if I revoke access? The bot uses your account to keep your list of top tweets up to date. So if you revoke privileges, it'll stop updating. You can continue using the list. It'll just get out of date after a while.
I have an idea for a feature! Please DM your ideas to @alfageeek.
Are you sure you don't want my money? I'm sure. But if you want to thank me, how about you go buy some of my novels. They make great gifts! Click here to find them on Amazon.
